COASTGUARD WHANGAMATA CALLOUTS MAY 2018. All assisted vessels and persons on board returned safely to port.
31 May. Launch 7.5m. Engine failure. 3 P.O.B. 7nm N of Mayor island. A Vessel of Opportunity undertaking the tow assist in transit to Tairua Harbour requested the tow assistance be taken over by Coastguard Whangamata. CRV GJ Gardner Ranger responded and tow assisted the Launch to a Tairua mooring.

31 May. Power boat 7m. Mechanical failure. 2 P.O.B. 9nm ENE of Whangamata. CRV GJ Gardner Ranger responded and tow assisted the vessel to the Whangamata boat ramp.

31 May. Launch 10m. Battery failure. 3nm NE of Whangamata.
The skipper contacted Coastguard Whangamata of his situation and need of assistance. A Vessel of Opportunity (VoOP) nearby responded and advised that they being of sufficient size and experience offered to assist the target vessel. This was approved and the VoOP located and tow assisted the vessel to the Whangamata wharf. A special thankyou to KAIMAHI 2 the VoOP for their assistance.
