    The 2018 Old4New Lifejacket Upgrade is back and once again Coastguard Whangamata is involved in the campaign. Over 7,500 lifejackets have been traded over the last four years of the scheme. With generous funding from Maritime New Zealand, and for a limited time, you are able to trade your old lifejacket for a great discount on a range of new, modern fit-for-purpose lifejackets. Coastguard New Zealand’s Old4New team will be in Whangamata on; Date: Saturday 22 December 2018 Time: 8am to 11am Where: Whangamata Boat Ramp Beach Road Whangamata Wear a lifejacket.     COASTGUARD WHANGAMATA CALLOUTS OCTOBER 2018. All assisted vessels and persons on board returned safely to port. 06 Oct. Launch 12m. Cooling system problem. 2 P.O.B. Near Onemana. A nearby Vessel of Opportunity ( VOoP ) upon hearing the initial call for assistance contacted Coastguard Whangamata and advised that they being of sufficient size and experience would assist the target vessel. Coastguard Whangamata monitored the passage as the VoOP tow assisted the vessel to a Whangamata Marina berth. A special thank you to OBAN the VoOP for their assistance. Total Coastguard man-hours 2 hrs. 21 Oct. Launch 8m. Fuel problem. 3 P.O.B. Straight Out 40m. A nearby Vessel of Opportunity ( VOoP ) upon hearing the initial call for assistance contacted Coastguard Whangamata and advised that they being of sufficient size and experience would assist the target vessel. Coastguard Whangamata monitored the passage as the VoOP tow assisted the vessel to a Whangamata Marina berth. A special thankyou to CAROL ANN the VoOP for their assistance. Total Coastguard man-hours 2 hrs. 21 Oct. Launch. Starting problem. 10 P.O.B. Near Onemana. CRV GJ Gardner Rescue responded and tow assisted the vessel to the Whangamata Wharf. Total Coastguard man hours 8 hrs.
