Never assume because it is blowing 40 knots, gusting 50 knots, that Coast Guard Whangamata are doing nothing. The crew were out on G J Gardner pumping out boats on moorings in the harbor, which were in danger of sinking. There was also a rescue involving Pauanui and Whitianga, concerning a disabled yacht, unable to put sail up given the horrendous conditions and being swept up the coast. The yacht was located after a few hours but the crews were exhausted. Well done to all involved during the “weather bomb”.
