Regional Communications Hub
Whangamata Coastguard is now linked in with the Eastern and Northern Region communications hub. This seamless link enables 24hr VHF communications in our coverage area. During winter and in summer low traffic hours, our VHF communications may be switched to the regional Communications Hub. In such instances your VHF calls will be answered by Coastguard Radio. Any requests for assistance during such periods will be communicated directly back to Whangamata for appropriate action. The telephone remains with a Whangamata operator 24 hrs / 7 days. 07 865 8800
All boaties whether a member of Coastguard or not are encouraged to lodge a Trip Report (TR) when leaving the harbour. Your report should include the number of people on board, a general area you are heading to and your expected time of return (ETR). This information is noted in our TR sheets and will assist us in providing appropriate assistance if required. Safe boating practice encourages carrying two form of communication (VHF, Cell Phone) when heading off shore.
