FEBRUARY 2019    CALLOUTS


All assisted vessels and persons on board were returned safely to port.

08 Feb. Yacht. 15m. Mooring mishap. Answering a call from the Whangamata Harbourmaster CRV Gardner Rescue responded, freed the vessel, then rafted up and moved the yacht to the wharf.

Total Coastguard assistance 9 hrs.

10 Feb. Personal Water Craft. Position unknown. 1 POB. Near Onemana. As being unfamiliar with the area a call was received from the person aboard the PWC for directions to Whangamata. The direction was provided and then CRV Gardner Rescue was crewed and readied for launching. The CRV and crew were stood down when the PWC was seen making passage in the Whangamata harbour channel.

Total Coastguard assistance 9 hrs.

13 Feb. Yacht. 12m. Engine failure. 1 POB. Near Patuhamo Point. CRV GJ Gardner Rescue responded, rafted up and assisted the vessel to a Whangamata mooring.

Total Coastguard involvement 14 hrs.

19 Feb. Launch. 12m. Transmission problem. 2 POB. 5nm E of Whangamata. CRV GJ Gardner Rescue responded and tow assisted the vessel to a Whangamata marina berth.

Total Coastguard involvement 21 hrs.

20 Feb. Power-boat. 6m. Engine failure. 1 POB. 5nm N of Mayor Island.

CRV GJ Gardner Rescue responded and tow assisted the vessel to the Whangamata ramp.

Total Coastguard involvement 15 hrs.

21 Feb. Launch. 11m. Engine failure. 4 POB. Near Mercury Islands. The skipper contacted Coastguard Whangamata of his situation and need of assistance. A Vessel of Opportunity (VoOP) nearby responded to the radio transmissions and advised that they being of sufficient size and experience offered to assist the target vessel. This was approved and the VoOP located and tow assisted the vessel southward to Terakihi Point. CRV Gardner Rescue then met and tow assisted the vessel to a Whangamata marina berth.
