FEBRUARY 2020 CALLOUTS

All assisted vessels and persons on board were returned safely to port.

02 Feb CRV GJ Gardner Rescue was tasked to possibly assist Tairua/Pauanui CRV in an operation to re-float a vessel beached on South Bay beach at Slipper Island. The operation was performed successfully by Pauanui Rescue without assistance from CRV GJ Gardner Rescue and as such was duly stood down and returned to base at Whangamata.

Total Whangamata Coastguard involvement 7 hrs.

02 Feb Launch. 9.8m. Engine problem. 4 POB. Near Terakihi Point.

CRV GJ Gardner Rescue responded and tow assisted the vessel to a Whangamata berth.

09 Feb Launch. 10m. Engine problem. 13 POB. South of Slipper Island. Due to the nature of the problem a Vessel of Opportunity (VoOP) which was close by offered to provide immediate assistance and transfer some of the POB. CRV GJ Gardner Rescue was tasked to the scene. With the engine problem partially resolved the vessel was shadowed back to Whangamata and assisted into a marina berth. A special thank you to ANDIAMO the VoOP for their assistance.

Total Whangamata Coastguard involvement 18 hrs.

13 Feb Power boat. 6.1m. Engine problem. 3 POB. Between Slipper and Alderman Islands. CRV GJ Gardner Rescue responded and tow assisted the vessel to the Whangamata boat ramp.

Total Whangamata Coastguard involvement 12 hrs.

17 Feb CRV GJ Gardner Rescue was tasked to assist Tairua/Pauanui CRV in the search for a possible swimmer missing off Pauanui beach. After performing a creeping line search CRV GJ Gardner Rescue was advised by Tairua/Pauanui CG to stand down and return to base.

Total Whangamata Coastguard involvement 18 hrs.

20 Feb At 0500 hrs CRV GJ Gardner Rescue was tasked to assist Tairua/Pauanui CRV in an operation to re-float a Launch with 3 POB beached on South Bay beach at Slipper Island. In tandem with Pauanui Rescue the target vessel was successfully towed back out to deeper water. After ensuring the safety and sea worthiness of the target vessel CRV GJ Gardner Rescue returned to base at Whangamata.

Total Whangamata Coastguard involvement 16 hrs.
